Spanning more than seventy years of artistic practice, Still Here brings together visual art, essays, oral histories, interviews, and poetry to document Black Miami’s people, neighborhoods, and creative traditions. This volume foregrounds the voices and perspectives of twenty-nine artists and cultural workers who reflect on the city’s histories of migration, displacement, and community-making.

Anchored by over sixty artworks, contributors explore Black Miami cultural aesthetics over decades of evolving racial politics, from Jim Crow segregation to global migration and contemporary gentrification. By documenting how Black artists have navigated and shaped a city in flux, the book offers lessons on community endurance, aesthetic innovation, and the power of shared memory.
