America250: A Reading List

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the US Declaration of Independence, also referred to as the United States Semiquincentennial, we are sharing a list of our publications related to American history and culture. This list features highlights from a variety of subject areas, including African American studies, Native American studies, space history and technology, archaeology, colonial history, literature, nature and dance.

If you’re interested in further reading in the subject of archaeology, our series The American Experience in Archaeological Perspective focuses attention on a range of significant themes in the development of the modern world from an Americanist perspective. Each volume explores an event, process, setting, institution, or geographic region that played a formative role in the making of the United States of America as a political, social, and cultural entity.
