For Chapter Authors: Reviewing Your Page Proofs

This is your last opportunity to review your manuscript. It is important that you review your proofs very carefully.

Read the entire text very carefully and mark only typographical errors or errors of fact or meaning. As stated in the book contract, you may be charged for any corrections other than typos and editorial/grammatical corrections. UPF reserves the right not to make corrections.

How to mark corrections:

Use the Comments feature in Adobe (found under Tools) and mark your changes on the PDF. (Do not use the Edit feature; we will not see your changes, and they will not be made.) The highlighter tool is very helpful for clearly marking the text you want to change; you then write the change in the Comment box in the panel.

What to double-check:

Make sure your name and the chapter’s title and subtitle are correct every place they appear.

Proofread the acknowledgments, if applicable. Make sure all personal names are spelled correctly.

Make sure figure captions and figure numbering match any in-text reference to figures.

Proof tables and check all sums.

Add missing information to all cross-references (e.g., “see page 000”).

Review each hyperlink in the PDF to confirm that URLs are correct. Mark changes if necessary. Please note that spaces may have been added for typesetting purposes. They will be removed (and the URL will be clickable) when the book is made into an e-version.

If any text or illustrations require permission, make sure the full and correct credit is present. Review permission letters as necessary.

If there were any outstanding issues from the manuscript stage, make sure they are resolved at this point.

Return the project to the volume editor by the due date.

NOTE: Please be aware that the page proofs and, if applicable, the PDF of the page proofs are not for external distribution.
